Wedding Sets - Victorian Set
In early Victorian times
it was the groom’s mother who arranged a ‘posy’
of flowers for the bride to carry. Due to blind faith
in superstition the groom’s mother selected specific
flowers for the posy to ensure the groom receives all
the ‘luck’ faithfulness and success’
she believes is due to him. Only very pale colours were
selected so as not to ‘overshadow’ the bride
or groom while blue was avoided because it faded in
artificial light. Bits of ribbon, lace, pearls and gems
were added according to the ‘wealth’ the
bride was bringing with her in the form of her dowry.
Flowers were supplied only by flower sellers in those
days so exotic flowers were not available, using instead
flowers grown in gardens or hot-houses.
